The global wellness industry is booming, now worth over $4 trillion. From candles to supplements to apps, “self-care” has been packaged and sold back to us as a lifestyle. But while the industry thrives, preventable illness, burnout, and inequality continue to rise.
Wellness, For Sale is a feature documentary now in pre-production. This stage is where the foundation is built, conducting deep research, shaping the story, assembling creative talent, and securing funding and appropriate partnerships to bring the film to consumers.
The film investigates how consumerism hijacked self-care, shifting responsibility away from systems and onto individuals and asks what it means to reclaim self-care as a public health right, not a luxury.
During COVID-19, the world proved that prevention and collective responsibility work. So why is wellness still being sold to us as something you can buy? And who gets left behind when it is?
“Wellness, For Sale exposes how a $4 trillion industry commodified self-care while health systems fell behind and calls for prevention and collective care to be reclaimed as a public health right.”
We’re bringing together public health leaders, frontline workers, cultural commentators, and everyday people to answer that question.
