Delighted to welcome Lavetanalagi Seru to our upcoming In The Spirit of Things conversations on Climate Change. We talk the unique challenges that Pacific island populations face (remoteness, low population sizes, isolation from international networks, vulnerability to environmental and economic shocks), and the high degree of vulnerability of Pacific people and communities: in particular, from geographical remoteness, the small scale of economies, high costs and the adverse effects of climate change and natural disasters, and increasing loss and damage from permanent and irreversible impacts of human-induced climate change.
Lavetanalagi Seru is a youth activist, and has a work background in youth development, climate change, gender & human rights, and social inclusion in disaster risk reduction.
He is currently the Regional Policy Coordinator of the Pacific Islands Climate Action Network, and has worked in the past with Amnesty International, and the Australian
Broadcasting Corporation – International Development (ABC-ID).
Lavetanalagi is also the Co-Founder and Coordinator of the Alliance for Future Generations – Fiji, the largest young people led network on sustainable development in Fiji.
In 2020, he was appointed as the Vice-Chair of the 2021 United Nations Food Systems Summit, Track III - Boosting Nature Positive Production, and he currently serves as the Pacific’s Regional Board Advisor for the Next Generation Climate Board of the Global Greengrants Fund, and Board Member of Climate Action Network – International.
